✨ Gifted ✨

I swore never to read another Colleen Hoover after ‘It Ends With Us’, but since my friend bought this for me I decided I might as well give it a go.

Devoured it, only because everyone was so delusional and had to be questioned! I kept saying ‘She crazy girl, she crazy’ because I could not believe Verity’s audacity 🥲

Do we believe the letter or the manuscript?! I was inclined to believe the letter but then who can write such horrors in vivid detail without having experienced them?! 😫

I’m giving this 3 out of 5 stars, thank you ✨ Content warnings will also be included below.

I will admit that this book had me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole thing. The whole time I was just so anxious to figure out what in the world was going on. However, this was one of those books where I didn’t like a single character and found it really hard to root for anyone. Every single person had such messed up motivations. I also felt like the amount of graphic sex scenes was totally unnecessary. I feel like a writer shouldn’t have to rely on spicy scenes to keep readers engaged (especially in an thriller) and that was the vibe I got in this book. As someone who approached this book looking for an eerie thriller (which was how the book presented itself), I was rather annoyed that 70% of the content was spice. No shame to those who enjoy spice in a book, but I found it frustrating that it kind of overshadowed everything else. If it wasn’t for the fact that I was desperate to figure out what was going on and had a ton of time on my hands, I probably wouldn’t have finished it. But I’ll give CoHo some credit with the fact that the main plot drew me in enough to keep reading. Unfortunately the only reason I was so drawn to find out how it ended was because I was completely baffled by the horrible and disturbing thoughts of Verity and I wanted to see some justice. Once again, I felt like I couldn’t root for a single character

This was so shocking. I did not see the plot twist coming and I don’t know if it’s because it was that good or I’m just stupid but overall this book was incredibly disturbing and yet I really enjoyed it and would reread.

It is a solid B book. It doesn’t deserve all the hype it gets. I don’t hate it, the plot twist be twisting! It was at least entertaining I guess and that’s all that matters.
