There is an incredible mastery of simplicity in this book. The writing is clear, accessible, and purposeful. Some dismiss this book as being too basic, but they miss the point. The simplicity isn't a lack of depth and is a deliberate choice. There's a contrast in the story that makes this clear: While the fruitless wannabe-Alchemist Englishman is obsessively buried in complex theories and books about alchemy and seeking the Alchemist, Santiago discovers "The Soul of the World" by being present and attentive to the experiences around him. 

At it's core, this is an inspiring story about living your Personal Legend. Not just searching for it, but actually living it. It has a beautiful uplifting message that "when you want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it."
