I really enjoyed this book. At first I though "Vampire book.. meehhh" but I got around to reading it and I enjoyed the characters journey. Though when it came to the end of the book I found that it was slow. Overall it was a really good, fresh retelling though

Parts of this were fun, but others were, uh, not good. I was not expecting the former vamps to be aged back so dramatically.

I received an ecopy of this book through Netgalley; however, my opinions are my own.

This was a fun and entertaining read. The negative about this book is that Charlie is actually insufferable and whiny most of the book. I can't understand why the constant stereotype of a teenage girl always defaults to a screeching banshee that constantly complains. At the same time, the male protagonist teen is always just a little more mature emotionally and socially. Ugh. Other than that the story was engaging and kept me invested. I really liked the switched plot of vampire-turned-human and the lore was interesting—a quick read with a steady pace for those that love supernatural teen dramas.

I’m not sure what I expected, but it definitely wasn’t tears. And that’s what I got here at the end!

I don't read a lot of vampire books because as much as there are some really great ones out there, they all seem kind of the same after a while. This was a fun twist, where the vampires are turned human and want to turn back. I didn't think it was spectacular, but it was a fun read, and I did like the growth of Charlie throughout.

What if you did something so heinous, even in the eyes of the Elder Vampires, that you and your brother were forced to become human again? That’s what happens to Charlie and Reg after a bit of a “mess up”, the Elder Seat “rewards” them with being made human again, as opposed to being staked or left out on the sun. What this brings about is a look at how vampires have to adapt to humanity, be able to blend in. This is not easy for 100+ year old teen siblings who are used to the finer things in life, especially Charlie. They are taken in by Sal the Slayer, not your usual every day vampire slayer they learn. As the story progresses, she not only has to learn how to deal with hormonal changes but with human emotion, creating friendships with the local teens, falling in love, navigating the halls of High School. Learning that Nowhere is not just any little old country town. This becomes a “life and death” situation for her and Reg when they discover an “Ancient” is living among the humans in the town of Nowhere and they convince Lina to sponsor them, so they can become immortal once more. Thus begins a heart wrenching decision for the teens: become immortal and betray those who have become your family or stay human and eventually die. I really enjoyed this take on the “vampire legend”. It didn’t disappoint. Lots of laughs and lots of tears, taking a good look around you and realizing not all is what it appears to be.

100+ years of being a vampire never prepared them for high school.

Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest opinion. I had high hopes for this one as I love paranormal comedies, and the synopsis read as such. However, I felt Charlie and her brother, Reg, vampires who have been punished and made mortal teenagers, just fell flat as characters. Maybe I just am not in the mood for the book, but I had a hard time getting in to it and eventually stopped reading.
