Coraline is one of those rare books that I would recommend listening to instead of simply reading, thanks to the melodic, hilarious at times, always creepy as hell narration from Neil Gaiman. Returning to it evokes the same masterful sense of disturbance and profound resilience that makes Coraline stand out among the rapidly growing genre of children's horror -- though I wouldn't say it’s only for children anymore. Coraline is truly for anyone vulnerable to independently articulate hands and the looming prospect of buttons for eyes.

i loved this. the only reason it’s not 5 stars is because i wish there was more lush descriptions of the scenery, people, etc. I loved the story but wish we had more details.

coraline was a must read for me this october, and i have a feeling i may be reading it pretty often in the future also

it was very spooky and atmospheric, but i read it in daylight surrounded by people, so perhaps those reasons dampened any true fear.. it was more creepy than scary

the concept is so unique and it was very well executed, the prose is pretty simple and still manages to be funny in all the right places

i loved the relationship between coraline and the cat, and i really liked the interesting relationship between her and the other father/bedlam's abused creations

the story about coraline, her father and the wasp nest really touched me, and the idea of being scared but doing the right thing anyway is a message we should all listen to, young or old

“being brave doesn't mean you aren't scared. being brave means you are scared, really scared, badly scared, and you do the right thing anyway.”

“Small world,” said Coraline. “It’s big enough for her,” said the cat. “Spiders’ webs only have to be large enough to catch flies.”
I love that line, it's so good. Honestly I love the plot and eeriness of the book even if I am a bit too old to fully appreciate it. I do miss Wybie though ;(
