Rich Guy and Poor Girl. Sounds like your typical romance novel, doesn’t it? And yet Kasie West makes it so different.

This was such a cute and fluffy book! It’s definitely a very quick read and one that’ll definitely get you out of a reading slump.

What makes this book different from others with the same premise is the wonderful characters. Each character in this book is a breath of fresh air. Caymen, with her dry humour and personality is totally relatable. I’m not rich, and I definitely know what it’s like living with your single mother and getting by. Caymen doesn’t let this affect her personality. She’s still an independent and headstrong girl.
“So Caymen..."
"So, Xander..."
"Like the islands."
"What?"
"Your name. Caymen. Like the Cayman Islands. Is that your mom's favourite place to visit or something?"
"No, it's her third favourite place. I have an older brother named Paris and an older sister named Sydney."
"Wow." He opens the bag, takes out a muffin, and hands it to me. The top glistens with sprinkled sugar. "Really?"
I gently unwrap it. "No.”

I really loved Xander as a love interest! He was so understanding. Yeah, he was rich, but that didn’t make him snobby at all. He took Caymen’s humour and delivered it right back to her. Can I get a Xander? I need someone to have sarcastic and witty conversations with!

The reason Xander & Caymen had such an adorable romance was because they both ignored their backgrounds and decided to know each other personally. Yes, Caymen had her doubts at first (because of his money), but Xander had no qualms about proving her wrong whenever he could. He showed her that he liked her for who she was!

I also really liked Caymen’s relationship with her mother because it seemed very genuine. They were great friends and yet their relationship developed and grew throughout the book. Caymen also had a great friendship with Skye, her eccentric best friend.

My only complaint about this book is the fact that it seemed a little bit rushed at the end. I would've enjoyed a more fleshed-out ending.

Overall, a great, fluffy, contemporary romance. It’ll leave you giddy and happy and wanting to devour anything else Kasie West writes.
“This is me facing failure. This is me putting everything on the line even though I know I might lose. And I'm terrified. But like you said, anything worth having is worth the risk.”

Cute, sweet story. I liked Caymen as a main character, but Xander seemed like a stock character: rich kid who wants to break away from what is expected of him and rather than being the "typical stuck up rich kid" is a sweet person. Though Xander wasn't very interesting, the dynamic between Caymen and her mother was interesting to read, even though, again, the situation with Caymen's mother and her parents/Caymen's father seemed like I had read that exact same thing in several other books.

Overall, I liked it and will recommend it to students who like to read contemporary novels, as I think they will really enjoy it.

Honestly, when I started reading this book, I really didn't think much of it. The book started off slow, as of course it should be, but come on, readers like when it to the good stuff; but what help would that do, have to keep the readers interest. Anyway, the beginning introduce the main characters, Caymen and Xander; I have to say it was a funny/odd way of them meeting. Once you start to read it more, you fall in love with the Caymen and hope everything goes well with Xander. In which, things do (tiny spoiler alert), I love how Xander falls in love Caymen because he falls for who she really is; and that says a lot about someone. Xander was wiling to accept a person flaws and love unconditionally.
This is a book I would definitely recommend a friend.

This is a guilty pleasure. I loved the protagonist even if she was at the beginning pretty judgmental. Her 27/7 sarcasm was on point and I often found myself laughing out loud because of her.
3/4 + one extra star because of the sarcasm haha

It's a very well written book and I loved it! But! The ending left me hanging!! What happens to Caymen and Xander? Yeah I get that they end up together but what about their future? Also, what about Caymen's father? What does he look like? Furthermore, what about Mason? Or Skye and Henry? How about Caymen's mom? Or her grandparents? All of these events left me confused and over-whelmed. It's a fantastic book. The only problem was, it never really gave me a satisfying ending. Hopefully, there would be a sequel or maybe an explanation as to what happens to Caymen and Xander's relationship. Or maybe about Caymen's father. But all in all, amazing book.

I was expecting more from this book but I did enjoy it. I really liked Cayman's characters, how she lived in a doll shop, her group of friends, and her sarcasm.

"No.”

I feel for Cayman the amount of times I'll be joking about something and people at work look at me like I'm serious, guys its a joke I just do a great deadpan sometimes.

“A lot of people don’t get my humor. My mom calls it dry humor. I think that means “not funny,” but it also means I’m the only one who ever knows it’s a joke.”

The side characters are really well done and I loved the dynamic between everyone. The setting was fun and creepy and the love interest was really cute. All in all this was a really enjoyable quick read.

While I liked Xander I wasn't in love with him, he was cute and rich and nice but I couldn't find much substance to him.

“Is that your subtle way of saying you missed me last week?"

"I've missed my hot chocolate. I just think of you as the guy who brings it to me. Sometimes I forget your name and call you hot chocolate guy.”

What is a summer without a good summer read? What exactly is a good summer read, you might ask? You know, the fluffy kind. That one adorable book that’s so adorable that it drowns in adorableness. That book with a cover that makes your heart happy and a romance that makes you want to awww, even though you’re in public and people will look at you funny. That one book that makes you wish for a pool in your backyard (if you have a pool in your backyard: lucky bastard!) and a cold drink with lots of ice in it. The Distance Between Us by Kasie West was that book for me.

My main reason for liking this book so much was Caymen (did we ever find out why she has this strange name?). She was my kind of girl. We became friends around page two, and besties after the first two chapters. Why? Caymen’s sense of humor matches mine perfectly. She is the one person who tells her jokes with a straight face, so people never know if she’s kidding or not. She is queen of sarcasm, which makes for the most hilarious situations. The dialogue sparkles, and it put a constant smile on my face.

I really liked the side characters as well, because Skye, Henry, the dude from the band whose name I forgot, Caymen’s mom, Xander’s grandmother… they all added something to the story. Were they as well worked out as I would have liked them to be? No. But for a light contemporary, they were fine. And did I mention that the romance was adorable? Because it was. Xander and Caymen complement each other perfectly in behavior and dialogue, and their flirty games made my heart race. The only thing that bothered me was that the big twist (which was interesting and definitely unexpected) made Xander and Caymen’s relationship seem fake to me.

There were more things about the ending that I didn’t really like, actually. I thought the drama with Caymen’s mom towards the end was unnecessary and rushed. I didn’t care for that plot line, because we hardly learned anything about it before the book ended. I would have preferred if this book focused mainly on Caymen’s family backstory, and not add more drama to it. But oh well. For the purpose of cute summer read, it will do. After all, I did really, really like this book. The dialogue and romance were what made me fall in love with this story, and I can’t wait to read more contemporaries from Kasie West.

Este libro es adorable. Caymen y Xander siguen pareciéndome supermonos.
