I wanted so very bad to love this book, and truthfully I loved some of the stories within it. As a whole though, it was a bore of a nightmare to get through. Lovecraft seemed to love stuffing as many words as he could into sentences, making much of his writing tiring to get through. There were several moments I found I could hardly keep my eyes open as his writing droned on and on. I realized rather quickly that I needed to be listening to an audio version as I followed along visually in the book, otherwise I’d make it through paragraphs before realizing I had no recollection of retaining anything I’d read.
The only reason I’m giving this any stars is because I am truly curious about the horrors he created when it comes to the Old Ones, and other such beings. I find it all so fascinating, and that was the only thing that kept me going through this. Otherwise, I’d say if you’re like me in enjoying collecting certain Cthulhu related things, having this on display on a bookshelf is about as much of its worth as you’ll likely get.

It was hard at first to get into this but a few stories in and I was hooked. Some were better than others but all together this paints a fascinating picture of the world Lovecraft created.

Mandatory Lovecraft Warning: Several of these stories contain highly racist depictions of Black people along with racial slurs.

Contains all the Cthulhu Mythos stories in an attractive leather covered book.

I especially like that it included The Horror In The Museum, although I prefer to attribute primary authorship to Hazel Heald.

Lovecraft stories hopefully need no introduction, and they are definite five stars from me. So this rating reflects more work of editors. It is a very nice softcover which could serve as a beautiful gift, and it contains all the goodies from the master. We can find here ven longer pieces like At the mountains of madness. The only thing which I want to complain about is the smallish font. I would really prefer one size larger. So I can enjoy horror without squinting.
