I've enjoyed the last few stories in this series. Unfortunately this one seemed a little rushed. There was a lot of telling not showing and a lot of stating the obvious (Lester and Red in a tornado, Lester grabs a bunch of red fabric which you automatically know is Red but then you're told it's Red. One example of many.)
Colfer, much as I love him, also uses an excessive amount of italics - it's distracting. I've said it before and I'll say it again - if a reader notices you're doing something, you're already doing it too much. There seemed to be italics on every page. Colfer should write it in a way that we get how it's said rather than lazily relying on italics. I know he's a busy man and people are hanging for the books but he needs to do a couple of drafts before it goes to the publisher or read other writers to improve.
I did love the growth in Red's character.
Picking aside, I & my sons enjoyed the story overall and look forward to the next instalment - possibly more because I'm a Colfer fan than actually hanging out to know what happens.

Not best Chris Colfer book I’ve read but very, very good.
I decided on a whim to reread this entire series and it’s taken me a week to read up until this book and I was enjoying myself. However, I’m starting to slow down and I might not read the last two. This makes sense since I’m now in college, but what worked for 9 year old me isn’t entirely working for 19 year old me and that’s okay. I still love this series so much and feel thankful for it and it’s truly magical and fun and had many lovable characters, but I’ve realized it’s a fun chapter to close on my life and to read more mature things. Still so thankful for this series❤️
Another great book in this saga. Love the cross over between classic stories!
These books just keep getting better. So glad I bought the box set.
