Mona Awad’s Bunny is a brilliantly horrific acid trip that reveals itself in shocking ways. Bunny is like Heathers, if Veronica was JD was Veronica. Sickeningly sweet and grotesquely corrosive, the novel oozes smells, sights, and textures that make your skin crawl for no apparent reason. Awad’s novel is definitely one that would benefit from a reread, as I’m sure there is a second layer to discover after having reached the conclusion. This depiction of ritualistic femininity and bloody love (through, ultimately, a battle with schizophrenia) is definitely a must-read.

I made it about halfway through the book before I decided not to finish. I really don’t like the story. I think the character development is trash. The story so far is predictable. It’s mostly just cringey, and usually I like the young adult cringe.

Oh my god I cannot spend another minute with this. The FMC comes off so whiny and self-pitying, her best friend is one of the most selfish, disrespectful, toxic and cringey edgelords I've ever read, and the bunnies are genuinely intolerable. This whole thing reads like something written in high school during the peak of someone's "I'm not like other girls" pick-me era. Maybe that's the whole point and I'm missing the forest for the trees here but I can't listen to another minute of how whiny and pathetic the FMC is. I'm not going to waste another nine hours of my life on this, I'm sorry but I just can't 😮‍💨

CW: Ableist language, Romani slur, woman slur, r*pe mentions, animal cruelty and death

This book was confusing and weird--bad weird. Too weird for me. Was it supposed to be horror?  Seemed pretty horrific to me.  A lady on tiktok recommended it, I will not be taking her recommendations again!

This was a really odd book, and I don't mean that in a bad way.

I really loved some of the writing, especially the way some things are described or the vivid similes used. I read this really quickly and that was refreshing after my previous, long and emotional wrecking reads.

I reckon I have a fairly decent understanding of the story, but I do know that I could definitely delve deeper into it. However, I'm happy just having gone along for the ride and I don't really feel that compelled to dive into the contents of the book that much. I enjoyed the freaky, girly, strangeness to it and it did its job to fill me with such an odd feeling at times.

I didn't really understand the line at the end with the mud but that's ok.

Not 100% sure what I just read but I mostly enjoyed it. Themes of the power creativity, the performance of femininity and connection, and the danger of isolation. I didn’t agree with some of the critique of the traditional femininity, but Samantha’s refusal to perform in the final chapter was satisfying.
