This book was mainly atmospheric. Mona Awad plays with our senses when she writes. From the beginning to the end, the reader is driven in a sea of sweet scents, pastel colours everywhere, and a lot of pastries and sugar. But all of that lovely things are tainted with blood and horror.
This satiric book was funny in it's own ways. The characters are so full of themselves and live in delusion.
I loved the contrast between the rich people sending their child in a rich university, but in a mainly poor city with danger at every street.
And all those symbolism and cultural references made this reading even more pleasant.
Definitely, Mona Awad became one of my favourite authors with this book.
You love her, or you hate her. There's no in-between.

i was very confused a lot of the time , but honestly a second read would probably lead me to liking this book a lot better. the prose was very creative and enjoyable. the absurdism of “bunny” is kafkaesque, but more enjoyable and for gay people.

If you read this book literally, it's an acid trip of horrors. Godspeed to you. If you read it as a metaphor... well, hopefully you've sat through a few creative writing workshops. That's my biggest criticism of this book: the intended audience feels very narrow. It's also a bit on the nose, mean spirited, and too long. I still gave it 4 stars, though, because it's such an accurate depiction of being an angsty, teenage writer.

What a wild book. Creepy and odd, the prose feels as fluctuating as the content. Really cool. -.25 just because it feels like it could have been fanfiction about the author not fitting in during her time at an MFA at brown, but truly what a creative way to take it.

I really enjoyed the first third of the book but it quickly fell off as it went on. I didn’t mind the writing style, I enjoy flowery poetic writing but it felt like a really long poem that could have easily ended early on. It was weird but a good weird overall. I did get lost a bit throughout but I guess that was the point of the book.
