These books are freaking intense - but I like them. Super scary and all the characters so far have had some awful things happen to them in the past.

This particular book was a bit depressing in some ways with a vigilante killing criminals and their representation after failing victims in the criminal justice system. The heroine is a traumatized prosecutor and the hero is a heart-broken detective. I mean heavy.stuff. I enjoyed it but had to take some breaks - I'm more a fantasy, or whimsical romance gal. I do like mysteries but more on the cozy side. These feel on the grim side of real, but the story is well done and I will definitely keep reading.

Still my favourite Karen Rose book (and I've read all of them). Fab plotting and an interesting plot twist. Love Kristen, she's such a fabulous competent woman, who has a past but picked herself up to get on with life. And who doesn't love Abe and the Reagans.

A book where you think you'd really like to be friends with the hero and heroine.

I'd love to read Rachel's story one day. I hope Rose goes back to Chicago for the younger characters.

Good and interesting read

Having read some of the Chicago series before it was nice to get an understanding of Abe and Mia. It was an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to fans of her books and crime fans in general

"I Know Their Crimes. Star prosecutor Kristen Mayhew has a dangerous secret admirer. He seems to know her every thought, her every move. He sends her letters. And he kills the criminals she herself is powerless to stop. I Hunt Down the Guilty. This avenger even knows Kristen's deepest secret-the one that has kept her from surrendering her heart to Abe Reagan, the police detective sworn to protect her. Like Kristen, Reagan is haunted by the loss of something precious that can never be regained. But in the shadow of a calculating serial killer, the two turn to each other and dare to rediscover passion...even as the messages and vicious murders continue. Even as the killer's thirst for retribution makes Kristen a target for murder." (From Amazon)

I love both Kristen and Abe and am so glad they came together. His family and background were just what Kristen needed. Their chemistry was great that you root for the two of them to get together. But the best thing about Karen Rose's novels is her ability to write villains and create crazy suspense. I have to start her novels on a day where I know I have a few hours to read or can go without some sleep. Also loved Mia in this book and her getting used to her new partner, Abe.

Synopsis

Now, Kristen together with Detective Abe Reagan must follow the clues and stop the killer before his thirst for vengeance makes her a target for murder.

Review
Captivating characters and a gripping plot that makes a serious indictment against the justice system.

The story provides compelling insight into the mind of a man driven to kill out of a need for justice - even though he is a killer, it is difficult not to understand and perhaps even root for his actions. The questions of good and evil, right and wrong are put to the test in this book.

Even though it is easy to guess the identity of the culprit, the investigation is interesting and their are enough clues and red-herrings to keep you turning the pages.

The romance is engaging although there are one or two themes that don't appeal to me - the hero is a widower and is still hung up on his dead wife to a certain extent, and the heroine is a rape survivor. Nevertheless, they have a sizzling chemistry and their scenes together are intense and emotional.

Overall, an engrossing read and Karen Rose is becoming a go to author for me.
