genuinely I think this has one of my favorite character arcs of all time. the way this book handles tess/all its characters with such kindness and understanding! contradiction case! mothers (if someone has hurt you, do they deserve to be redeemed later in life???)! I love this book and am so happy to come back to it after 5 years. a big kiss for rachel hartman

Well written and nuanced, but deals with some very adult themes (including rape, masturbation, forced pregnancy) that are not always dealt with the way I'd like. I wouldn't recommend this to younger readers.

I thoroughly enjoyed this fantastical quest tale of Tess finding herself apart from her twin and her family. It was also nice to revisit characters from the original series such as Seraphina. The only negative thing I have to say is that the story felt slow at times, but when events accelerated, the pace really moved quickly. Many surprises kept me guessing. This was definitely not a predictable story by a long shot, and I look forward to seeing what happens to Tess in the next book.
