Good start. Battle scenes were hard to follow and longer than they needed to be but I did enjoy the book.

I'd describe this as "Young-Adult" fiction. The central character is nieve but earnest. Many of the situations are contrived and while the world building is good, it has several unexplained elements.

The central mystery is glaringly obvious, although there are a lot of minor mysteries that keep the reader guessing.

The story is solid and the characters are interesting, so I enjoyed the novel and am reading the next in this series.

Audio book review.

Interesting while in it, but not particularly memorable. Definitely reads like a role-playing video game, but in space. Lots of talk about armor and weapons and classes. Kinda weird, because I'd get sucked in thinking it was semi-realistic, then be reminded that I'm basically reading the story right out of a video game. Characters talk about their own gear and abilities in a way that just doesn't make sense IRL. Would recommend if you enjoy reading these type of books. It's definitely a more interesting spin on the genre than other ones I've read.
