Seeing Gender

hopeful informative inspiring medium-paced

This guide is so comprehensive. It deconstructs not just gender, but every aspect that intersects with gender (fatphobia, racism, misogyny, capitalism, class, ability, etc) in such an approachable way that even a curious gender/activism/theory novice could understand. I am very impressed!

3.5. I felt like this book was especially strong when it discussed the personal journey of the author. But it seemed to bounce around a lot, covering a lot of different topics (race, school-to-prison pipeline, abortion, etc.). And while they're important topics, they seemed beyond the scope of this particular book.

Pretty great, all-encompassing book about gender identity, gender expression, and how that intersects with sexuality, race, socioeconomic status, colonization, and feminism.

3.5 stars

Visually it’s a beautiful book, and I enjoyed the artwork immensely. I appreciated the concept as well. As a genderfluid person, I learned a lot from this book, especially about intersectional feminism. But the amount of topics covered was overwhelming and lacked organization. I would have preferred an in-depth study of fewer topics.

This book would be an excellent addition to libraries and bookstores. My only concern is that it’s written for open-minded and curious readers, but I truly hope that this resource reaches a wide variety of people.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Very disjointed and surface level

A good look into Gender and Queer issues and knowledge

Read this in one sitting at Barnes & Noble. If you’re looking for a quick, informative read on gender and identity I highly recommend. Definitely good for those who want to be more informed or who need a quick refresher :)
