This erudite  biography of a mother who died young from suicide written by her son who didn't know her and his journalistic research into her history; from her childhood through her uphill battle as a woman seeing a college degree and phD in the 1950s and 1960s education. Through her dating, marriage, affairs , live and friendships, mentors and aides, to teaching and becoming a published writer. This journey is deep and fascinating. It took a long time to read as it was so detailed, and while it jumped from interview to written works, to interview to stories it's fascinating and worth the time.

I especially appreciated her early experiences and awareness of LGBTQ community and how that affects her personal journey and the final affair with a bi sexual man that ends her marriage and seems to trigger the series of events that triggers her suicide.
