Took me a while but man, was it worth it. After I finished, I sat hugging the book to my chest with tears on my face, mourning the losses and hopeful for the future of these characters of whom i couldn’t help but love.

I love Barbara Kingsolver so it’s no surprise I liked this book. Set in Appalachia, it shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that this story heavily revolves around opiate abuse. As an English nerd, I appreciate what Kingsolver did with transforming a Dickens novel into this story. It works amazingly well. Also as a Virginian who lived in Tennessee for a minute, I loved the familiarity of the setting and of the people. Personally, I felt the ending (like the last 5-10 chapters) dragged a bit, but I understand why.
