I am so happy I was led to this book! Sister Therese of the Child Jesus was a Carmelite nun and the inspiration of many modern Christians- Mother Teresa chose her religious name to honor St. Therese, and Pope Francis is particularly devoted to her as well. She tells her story in her autobiography (she was asked to write it by her Mother Superiors) with humility and joy, and I felt the entire time as if she were sitting beside me telling it to me personally. The entire mission of her life was to surrender herself completely to Jesus, and allow him to use her even though she was weak and little. She referred to herself as the "little flower of Jesus", and I'm sure she could never have imagined that she would be named a Doctor of the Church and her writings would be revered all over the world.

I have to return this copy to the library today, but I will definitely be purchasing one to keep on my own bookshelf!

What an amazing book! St. Thérèse was such a wonderful saint. I love her describing God as a Painter… what a beautiful analogy. This biography is jam-packed with goodness about the Catholic Faith. Would highly recommend!

I am not finishing this book. Now that I have switched English classes, I do not plan on reading this again. As you an see, my feelings for this book have not changed. Everyone says how they admire Thérése so much. I just don't get it. She is extremely full of herself, and she is always crying at every little thing. She seems really spoiled, and it drives me crazy. Even when she says that she "did it for Jesus" she is still obsessed with herself. I just don't know what people like about her.

Ok. I do not like this book. Yet, I must read it. I continue to try and like it, but it is just not happening. I have to admit that reading the introduction (the first edition introduction) out loud is a little bit fun, but I am not really liking this book. I am reading this book for my English class, just my friend Madi and I. I have to say that I like how she used her mother's letters, it makes it sound less like bragging. And all of the details that she remembers are quite fascinating. All of the books that I have read this year for English have been true/based off a true story, which I find slightly intriguing. I would really love it if someone could actually convince me that this is an amazing book.

This book is one of my favorites. I have read it 5 or 6 times already, and I always get something new out of it. Her spirituality is accessible to everyone, and that is what I love about it. This is by far the best translation in my opinion. The language, while still flowery, is not saccharine sweet, which I have found to be the case in some other translations. Also, the earlier translations, were heavily edited by her sisters. Don't hesitate to read this book because it was written by a young nun during the 1800s. There is really something for everyone contained in her writings, and it's definitely worth re-reading.
