A book about a book club. Fabulous! I found it hard to pinpoint a plot but essentially a few ladies of varying ages get together and form a book club while their own life storylines change and progress over the short timeline. Things just kind of happened in the book in their own timing. Everything was random and it jumped around a lot to different perspectives without actually announcing who it was. It gave me a bit of whiplash. However, you could figure it out eventually. I think I just like it more when every narrator has their own chapter.

The romantic development was okay. It was unfocused in my opinion but it did wrap up nicely in the last few pages.

I think a lot of people will like this book. It just wasn't for me.

I very simply did not enjoy this book. The writing felt very amateurish to me and the characters were one-note, not complex at all. The story felt like it was dragging and I struggled to finish it. I had high hopes because I really love stories about female friendship, but this one just didn't pan out.

Karissa and her daughter Macy are moving to Gig Harbor to start over. New house, new friends, new job, and a new life. The neighbors seem nice enough and her new job as an assistant at the local publishing house seems promising, but she needs more. Karissa quickly befriends two of her neighbors Margot and Alice. As their friendship grows they decide to start a book club and Alice's grumpy older sister, Josie, joins them. Karissa, Margot, Alice, and Josie create a bond and a friendship none of them expected to have. Each of them has their own hurdles they must face and overcome, but with good friends to lean on they will find that they can do anything.

The Best Life Book Club is the perfect read. The beginning is a little slow but it is just so we can get the lay of the land for each amazing lady in this story. This story has four POVs but I feel as though the book primarily follows Karissa and her journey. The characters are all so realistic with their own strengths and flaws and they all really stand out on the page. While I loved all the women, Margot and Josie were my absolute favorite.
Josie is so quick witted and grumpy but her growth throughout this book was **chefs kiss**. Also I could just hear her in my head and she made me giggle so many times.
Margot is a dreamer and while she may be super organized, girl is chaotic. I love it. Her POVs were my favorite to read and I definitely connected to her character the most.
Alice reminds me of a typical Hallmark grandmother, sweet and doting. She really holds the group together and her story is so fascinating.
Karissa has a lot going on and as the reader you see her strength early on but reading her POV as she realizes her strength is really awesome. She also gives me Hallmark vibes as a character.
Honestly....this whole book was written so well that I could see the easily being picked up for a movie deal. The author did a fantastic job bringing her story to life. This is a story of friendship and healing and would be perfect to have as a book club book.

Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for providing me with an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

her husband’s affair with her neighbor and best friend, Allegra (love that she’s named after allergy medication 🤣). After getting a divorce, Karissa decides to move to a new town and start a new life with her 8 year old daughter. She finds a job with a publishing company, working for the dashing Edward Elliot. Her new neighbors offer the kind of solace she needs and they form a book club. The story revolves around all of these people, the books they read and the kind of impact it has on their lives.

This is a lighthearted read, with some ups and downs in between. Their struggles are very real- there’s a woman who has been laid off, another who deals with grief and anxiety. The topic of widowhood, divorce and shared custody have been tastefully handled. It’s wonderful to read about stories where characters discover their true potential, while undergoing a process of healing.

Coming to the romance part- there are multiple love stories in the book, but only one of them was truly fleshed out. I do admit that storyline had me grinning ear-to-ear. It was that cute! Karissa’s attraction towards her boss fell very flat, though. I wish he had more personality, but instead, was just described as brooding, and ‘kind’ all the time. Think Darcy meets Rochester.

The book also ran a little longer than needed, but it was a fairly good read.
