I’m not sure how I’m feeling right now. This book broke me and then pieced me in kind of a very chaotic way back together.
And it’s really not a love story even if you momentarily expect it to become one.

I really like Tori. Not necessarily who she is as a person, but the way she is described is just very real. I’m not saying I agree with all her choices, but I understand them. Honestly she is an asshole at times, but you can’t help but feel for her.
I loved the first half of this book, but I felt it was longer than it needed to be, and honestly it felt liked it just dragged on in the second part.

Solitaire is the embodiment of the I’m not like other girls trope, very reminiscent of the ”edgy” side of 2010s tumblr that romanticized mental illness. There’s barely any coherent plot and especially the more action-heavy scenes read like a wattpad fic.

I’m not saying Oseman is a bad writer, just that this book was published way too soon. It would’ve needed at least a few more rounds of edits to be good.

At it’s current state, it’s an authentic representation of the 2010s teenage mindset, but not a fully fleshed out novel.
