Lehane's stories are relentlessly dark and filled with child abuse. I would like to think that when he's not writing, his thoughts are all about rainbows and spring flowers.

Read this book on a coworkers recommendation and it was far better than I expected. Plot twists and mismatching thoughts and actions at every turn. A very complex story on three people and their lives after one of them experience a trauma in their youth and another’s child being killed years later. Interesting take on grief, trauma, revenge and its impact on a tight knit community.

I really enjoyed this book for the first three quarters or so. It's the first of Dennis Lehane's works that I've read, and I really like his writing style. I haven't seen the movie, so I went in knowing next to nothing about the story, and was sucked in from the beginning. He does a great job setting up the novel, establishing the characters and the plot, but I was able to solve the main mystery relatively early on, and found the conclusion of the novel a little bit disappointing. Still, it was a hell of a page turner, and I will be reading more of Lehane's novels soon.
