My Letter to Ballad
Dear Ballad,
Oh Ballad, Ballad, Ballad. You have woven me around your finger even when I was unsettled and not sure I wanted to like you as much as I do.
From your first lines, your creator's magical prose spun around in my head, weaved and sung so that I could not put you down.
I found myself flipping though your pages wanting to know what will come of James, Dee and Nuala. I found myself caught up in the life of James and the magical world of the Fae. My dear Ballad, you sister-book Lament sung to me, captured me and held me and you have done the same.
In case you did not know, I adored James in Lament but with you I found that I cared for him far greater. Dear sweet and conniving Ballad you have forever endeared James to my heart. You endeared him with his sharp wit, vulnerability, compassion and loyalty.
You showed me James for the cool teenager that he is. You showed me his smarts, talent and courage.
Dear Ballad, I am going to tell you, James is a boy that would make a fabulous friend/boyfriend. He has a great sense of self even when he has his moments of feeling out of place. James, simply put, is amazing. I thank you, Ballad, for bringing James into my fictional world.
Yes Ballad, I was riveted to your pages and I am satisfied.

i found the MC’s to be incredibly annoying and the story to be boring. it was so enticing at the start, but then everything just got slow and the conflict became contrived.

james story the second in the series, not as good as the first but still a wonderful read

2.5 stars. Although this had similarly enjoyable creepy elements as LAMENT, the pacing is totally off. And, while I appreciate the idea of having the sequel narrated by a different character, I really just want to know about Deirdre and Luke, and was disappointed.

I think I actually loved this book more than Lament. I love James and Nuala's relationship. Its not the lovey-dovey crap. They actually have problems and issues they have to deal with. I loved Sullivan too, and thought it was interesting what happens to him. Hopefully they'll be another book in this series!

This book is definitely a favorite of mine.I love the characters.James is soo sarcastic.And that is one of my favorite traits.I love sarcasm.It's one of my specialties.Lol.

Ik heb nog geen enkel boek van Maggie Stiefvater gelezen dat me echt teleurstelde. Het ene boek is net iets meer mijn smaak dan het andere, maar ze hebben allemaal een voor mij heel belangrijk element gemeen: Ze kennen een hele sterke sfeer. En het is die sfeer die ervoor zorgt dat je jezelf onderdeel van het verhaal voelt, ook als je niet altijd helemaal snapt wat er nu PRECIES gebeurt.
Dit boek, het tweede boek dat Maggie gepubliceerd heeft en bedoeld als tweede deel van een trilogie, waarvan het derde deel waarschijnlijk niet meer komt, is daarin geen uitzondering. Al in het eerste hoofdstuk wordt een sterke sfeer neergezet en die wordt doorgetrokken tot aan de allerlaatste bladzijde. Het is een hele andere sfeer dan de sfeer in het eerste boek, veel duisterder, donkerder en vooral bedreigender. Het is duidelijk dat er iets in de lucht hangt en het niet veel goeds in de zin heeft.
In dit boek wordt het karakter James, de beste vriend van Dee, verder uitgewerkt. Als geen ander is Maggie in staat om realistische, imperfecte karakters te maken met kleine dingen die ze echt tot leven brengen. James is daarin niet anders en hetzelfde geldt voor de Faerie met wie we in dit boek te maken krijgen. Het zijn geen karikaturen, geen cardboard copies. Het zijn mensen. Echte mensen.
En hoewel het plot niet altijd even duidelijk is (en mijn huidige vermoeidheid zal daar niet bij helpen) omdat er heel veel gebeurt en niet alles on page plaatsvindt, is het een boek dat ik moeilijk weg kon leggen. Het las makkelijk weg, waarbij het taalgebruik de sfeer echt ondersteunde, en het bleef continue boeiend.
Het boek eindigt niet echt met een cliffhanger, net als het eerste deel dat niet deed, maar ik was toch heel benieuwd geweest naar deel 3. En ik ga deze twee boeken ook zeker nog een keer herlezen, als ik iets minder moe ben.

I loved this sequel to Lament but it drove me NUTS not to know what was really going on with Dee. I understand it was focusing on James but I was dying to hear from her. The texts were a great way to convey Dee's feelings without having her talk to James. I understand also that it was probably to show the distance that has grown between Dee and James but it was killing me :) I think there might be a third one based on the way it ends but I haven't heard anything so far.
