I'm of two minds when it comes to this one. The nerdy mythology loving part of me enjoyed it. The other part of me wondered why it was so incredibly long. I can fully admit that large parts of the book could be removed and you would still get the same story. I loved that we got all these differently mythological beings included, though Norse was the main focus. Overall it was one of those books that I'm glad I read and would probably read again but wouldn't be likely to recommend to a friend who wasn't a fan of Gaiman.
So I listened to American Gods as an audio book after reading it about ten years ago.
I wasn't a huge fan then and still don't really get it. I mean, it's decent writing, but kinda instantly forgettable.

I just finished reading the new authors preferred text, and I must say although I can't quite remember what was new and extended bits, that it was an even bigger pleasure reading it again than the first time. There are so many bits and details I want to know more about, and I have added several other books to my reading list on topics that have been mentioned in the book. Just the way a good reading experience should be! Now I feel ready to watch the new TV-series, and see how they imagined the story visually.

Really, thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait for the sequel or the TV series that is airing next year. I'm a little worried they will mes it up though.
Easily one of my favourite books and one I would recommend to everyone.
Genuinely ones of the best books I've ever read it is incredible and so interesting.
Amazing style of writing, really refreshing concepts, beautiful linking back to earlier moments in the book. There were twists that were surprising or well written enough you feel smart for predicting.
A great melody of lots of different religions and gods. It really showed how different and scattered America is, without being patronising.
I don't think I could ever hype this book up enough.
