So creepy! So good!

Ah, another of my dad's beloved creepy/conspiracy theory novels. They're fun reads, if decidedly not great literature. I admit I have a soft spot for Pendergast, even if he does come across as a big know-it-all [redacted] sometimes. ;)

I seem to be reading them all out of order, though. Not that I think it matters too much.

This series is just so, so, so super ridiculous, and for some reason, I can't get enough of it. For whatever reason, they keep me up late into the night, turning pages like a mofo.

Loved it. Fantastic murder mystery and thriller. The villian is frightening and very vivid.

So dumb 10/10 would read again

Later books reveal clues to the mysteries here. A good mix of mystery, horror and suspense with a dash of history and science.

3.5

There was a bit of a plot orphan that was a bit distracting, but over all this was a very enjoyable story with likable and interesting characters.

I often find descriptions of torture and gore to be heavy handed and gratuitous. The result is that I am taken out of the story rather than deeper in, but in this story the descriptions were handled with such finesse and humanity that it really brought the characters involved closer to the reader.

I very much look forward to the other books in the series.
