Great artistic detail but story lacks substance

This is really my first foray into the Justice League as I have mostly stuck with Bat man family of comics. I appreciated the detailed depictions but really felt like the story was boring and pretty shallow.

I enjoyed this. I wanted to read this after I found out it was the source material for the movie Justice League: War. I liked this better than the movie (but the movie was good) just because I liked the flow a little better. I LOVE the artwork. For anyone else who is just getting into comics, I imagine it's nice to have more backstory covered before getting into Justice League, but I don't think it's entirely necessary. Just having a basic knowledge of the characters should be good enough. I'm new to comic books, so people with more experience on the topic may have differing and more educated opinions, but for what it's worth I think this is a good read.

This is a popcorn flick of a superhero book. It's not a spectacular story, but it sure looks pretty doing what it does. I was not a huge fan of this New 52 relaunch when DC did it. Still, this is fun if you just want big superhero action without having to think. Total escapism, nothing more.

Holy action Batman! It was non stop fighting. I wish there had been sometime to breathe. And that some of the character developed could have happened between epic fight scenes.

I did enjoy the cattiness between Batman and Green Lantern though.

This was honestly a quick read and with that, can you guess if it was good? This comic was absolutely eye opening and will introduce me to more comics. First of all, I was able to make some connections between different panels of the art. At one time, STAR labs mentions about Cyborg being accepted into MSU and his Dad kinda dissed MSU. I found this really interesting as I am now a spartan and will be a spartan this fall for my sophomore year of college. Second, the art, was breathtaking. Just imagine some the most abstract, colorful art you have ever seen. The story was an introductory one, getting the team together, however, it flowed nicely and the pace was perfect. I will be definitely be continuing with this comic series and I ABSOLUTELY recommend. If you never have read comics or need a refresh, definitely check this one out.

The ensemble gig is really hard to pull of in the DC universe. Each character seems to have such a different tone and temperature, it's difficult to create storylines that mesh well with such divergent personalities. I mean even the color palettes of heroes such as Superman and Batman are so dichotomous it's hard to put them on the same page. But - Jim Lee is the master and Geoff Johns does a fantastic job reintroducing these characters to each other and to us in this latest reboot. Superman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Cyborg find themselves bumping shoulders as they each try to individually respond to an alien threat popping up around the world.

I'm quite frankly surprised how well Johns avoided the campy sort of feeling we get from these types of mash-ups. Instead, each character has a defined role within the tapestry that is simultaneously serious and humorous. The banter between Lantern and Batman alone is worth pouring through the pages of this first volume. What's really fantastic about this reboot is that it takes place so early in the lives of the characters. Not only are they new to their powers themselves, but to each other and the world. The world hasn't quite decided if these masked men and women are friends or foes. They complain about the property damage that ensues and the danger to the surrounding community wherever they happen to show up, but even better than that: the heroes themselves are untrusting and somewhat unknown to each other. There are references to events that might have drawn one or two of them together in their own individual title runs, but it's good fun to see Lantern and Flash refer to Superman simply as the Alien or referring to Batman as a myth. My favorite bits in the volume are Flash and Lantern's incredulous quips that Batman can't "do anything" (a reference to his lack of super powers). Unlike the traditional league, it looks like the leadership role in this iteration falls pretty squarely on Bruce's shoulders. He has a ton of dialogue and does a lot to keep the team together through encouragement, planning and strategy with Supes acting mainly as muscle and not saying much at all. While I love Superman and love him as the traditional cornerstone of the league with people drawn to the organization and respecting it because of him, I kind of like this new role for Batman. The question is whether it meshes well with the personality Snyder has created for him in the New 52 universe. In the pages of the Batman series, he feels more lone wolf than ever, which makes him feel more social than ever before in the pages of Justice League.

These characters all feel like the traditional heroes we know and love, but they feel young. That lack of experience, that feeling of freshness is what drives this volume and I like it quite a bit. Looking forward to the next arc.

Aside from rushing Cyborg into the fray, this was an excellent introduction to the Justice league. Every character got to show off their skills and personality, both separately and within a group, they faced down one of DC's biggest baddies, and it all looked absolutely amazing. I'm glad Court of Owls penned me up to giving the New 52 a shot. It's admittedly a lot easier than reading all the older comics issue by issue.

Fantastic.

Each character got a good amount of time to showcase their abilities. The interactions among the team were genuine, especially between Batman and Green Lantern.

People may not agree with me here, but I like that Cyborg is now a founding member of the Justice League instead of the Martian Manhunter. Cyborg's abilities are unique among the rest of the team, while the Martian's were vastly similar to Superman's.

The story was really well played out, I think. I'm looking forward to the inevitable return of Darkseid, though it's more than likely going to be a few years.

I'd give the five stars with no problem if it wasn't for the noob-is-the-hero cliche...
Le daria cinco estrellas sin problemas si no fuera por el cliche de "el novato salva el dia"...

A good start to the justice league. You get a sense of each character's personality without it being too much.
