This story is definitely darker than I remembered, when I first read it a while ago. But it’s still a mysterious, touching, magical story nonetheless. And, it’s got one of my favourite book quotes ever:

“We come into the world out of the dark. We haven’t got a clue where we’ve come from. We’ve got no idea where we’re going. But while we’re here in the world, if we’re brave enough, we flap our wings and fly.”

i very much like this book, kinda creepy and kinda weird. felt a little slow at times. but overall the characters were so so complex and diverse, the plot was original and creepy and mystical, the writing style was extremely magical (i love david almond), and the cover is beautiful. heaven eyes will stay with me for a while. :)

Even though I understand and admire the symbolism and tightrope between fantasy and reality Almond has created, this story seemed fell flat of enjoyable.
