This is a cute, fun cozy mystery. I think the author does a lot better with standalones then sequels.

Did anyone else find Vera annoying instead of endearing?

First cozy mystery I picked up, and I agree with the hype! Loved the audiobook narrator and of course Vera. I thought the ending/twist was a little odd but found the whole thing very charming, especially the found family aspect.

Doesn't really go anywhere crazy or super unique. It's just a super well-crafted cozy murder mystery with some features I really love:
- Found family. I am realizing that I enjoy the found family trope.
- San Francisco setting. It's not massively atmospheric, but I got a decent sense of the city setting, and I love San Francisco, so it brought warm feelings.
- Speaking of warm feelings, the characterizations were well done across the board. Vera's character, especially, took me back to days when I, like the other protagonists, was in my 20s (a few are in their 30s), and dealing with Chinese seniors on a regular basis. Her bossiness, her tea, just her entire attitude brought back tons of fond memories

A very wholesome cosy mystery, which ended in such a warm hug.
I loved all the characters, especially Vera and Emma and the development of the character’s relationships was so heartwarming.
A nice, quick read!
