I liked the story, but you really need to play the first Dead Rising game all the way through to understand 100% everything that's going on, plus avoid inevitable spoilers.
I've played the first quarter of Dead Rising, so I have a good grasp of the general storyline, but found myself waylaid a few times when end game events were referenced.
If you're like me and don't care about spoilers, you're more interested in the story and the characters, have at it. Otherwise best steer clear until you've beaten the first game.
