I finished The Girl With the Louding Voice today, and this book moved me in ways that a book hasn't in a long time. I'm a high school student in the USA, but even with me being so different than Adunni, I found myself relating to her in so many ways. I also feel like I learned so much more from her story and her pain. The writing of this novel is so beautiful and unique. It is written in broken English at first, which was an adjustment, but it really fit the story, and I felt like I could clearly hear Adunni's voice and thoughts. There was not a single place in the entire book where I was not fully wrapped up in Adunni's story. I really recommend this story to anyone. It can be emotional and graphic at times, but it really brings a personal perspective to deeply important issues.  I feel like my perspective has widened so much. I can't say enough about this book, for sure one my absolute favorite books this year, if not of all time!

This book deserves all the hype 😍😍😍

But seriously, it’s a beautiful story. Adunni is an instantly likable and admirable character, and her growth over the course of the novel is captivating and unforgettable. I couldn’t put it down!

Adunni is only partially educated and speaks broken English, and the book is written in her voice, which some people might find off-putting but I promise you should stick with it. The way it’s written really adds to the story, I thought.

The pacing was good too. I never really knew where it was going or what would happen next, but it kept me interested the whole time.

There’s also a lot of great side characters. I particularly loved Adunni’s relationships with Khadija, Kofi, and Tia.

Read if you like: literary fiction, education, inspiring books.
