Oh Myyyy!!!
Why didn’t anyone tell me about this book sooner! I was so eager to read it, but at the same time I didn’t want the story to end
I grew so fond of Adunni. She’s so smart, brave and funny too. Some of her descriptions had me cryinggg.

It’s sad to think how some cultures still participate in this ‘tradition’ of marrying girls off to men that could be their fathers! It’s disgusting🤮
Such a shame!

I did eventually feel bad for Big Mummy tho, but she made her choice i guess. So happy Adunni got to meet people that cared for her. At least she wasn’t all alone🥹

Emotional and character driven. I wanted Adunni to succeed throughout the entire story and I’m so glad there was hope towards the end. We follow a fourteen /fifteen year old Nigerian girl from a rural village who is taken into a stranger’s house to be bear him a son. Unfortunately, indirect tragedy strikes and Adunni realizes she can’t stay anymore if she wants her “Louding voice” to move beyond her current situation. Thankfully, there are people that are on her side and help Adunni strive toward her goals. This book sheds a lot of light to what happens in rural places not just in Africa but all over the world. We need to advocate for girls and women to receive education, no matter what status they hold in life. We can’t shut out our women when there is so much for them to strive for.

The Girl With The Louding Voice by Abi Daré was a difficult and traumatic read, but well worth the time. This heartbreaking story makes you want to crawl into the pages and hug Adunni as tight as you can as her childhood unfolds. While I’m not typically a fan of stories written phonetically, Daré’s style here helps to solidify Adunni’s place in society and her lack of education. This is such a moving read, but, full-disclosure, I found it hard to get through given the subject matter’s weight. I do highly recommend this book, but be warned that it is not a happy read, nor an easy one. This book handles real life events for so many women (really, young girls who become women too soon), and though it is a fictional account, it doesn’t make these situations any less real. This book will make you think about others on an entirely new plain, but it is well worth it.

Another book I have been putting off for years. I really enjoyed this book. Seeing Adunni battle the cards she was dealt with and overcame them I was really proud of her. Rooting for her. I’m glad she was able to get a happy ending.
