A re-read of one of my favourite books, the tragedy combined with the delicate writing makes for a heart wrenching but incredible read
This early morning read was not my favorite: the story is melodramatic, the language is occasionally awkward, and poor Tess's fate is a foregone conclusion. Alec is a classic abuser, blaming Tess for being so sttractive that he can't help himself. !!! I'm hoping the movie versions are more interesting, and I won't give up on Hardy quite yet.

The plot got so depressing for me. I had to go read a synopsis to decide if I could besr the rest of it out and I decided not- I was happy to know that eventually there was a happy end, but Tess had a rough enough life until this part happened!

I finished this a week ago and am still trying to process it, it was so complex and controversial (especially for the time). It was so amazing though! Hardy is a literary genius and crafts such an amazing story that challenges Victorian society and it's standards. It is definitely a book that makes you think. I have a new perspective on the world, love and hate, relationships, people, and myself. I can't fully explain how I feel and how I've changed, but I have. This book will also take you on an emotional rollercoaster! (All for the sake of the story and theme, of course!) I sincerely loved some characters and hated others. Some characters I both adored and despised. (Can you say Angel?!) But it all worked. (Hardy it's amazing!) I have a new favorite author.
