Not only are the illustrations really lovely, this book is full of really thoughtful, lyrical self-affirmations that any Black child can repeat to themselves well after reading. On top of that, this book is loaded with great vocabulary words for both younger and older readers alike. I really enjoyed reading this book and I can't wait to recommend it to others.

This book is an encouraging and empowering love letter to many different shades of brown found on many different shades of people. The rich poetic text is powerful and I can see parents and teachers wanting a copy of this book on their shelves to impart a positive message to the kids in their lives. I don't know that it's a book I necessarily see kids reaching for themselves, but with the right adult to share it, I think it's an inspiring book.

This is beautiful, powerful writing and illustrations. The book is poetry with the most beautiful, positive, diverse illustrations to accompany. Cannot recommend enough, this is so uplifting and special. Truly a celebration!

Enjoyed the illustrations and the celebration of culture and race but found it so wordy and just not very kid-friendly.

The text is a skosh overdone, but those illustrations are to die for.
