Well color me impressed! I thought that Delicious in Dungeon would simply be some lighthearted fluff but the mangaka really put some thought into several aspects of the story! A few quick bullet points about stuff I liked in this volume:
  • While the first volume delved into the biology and behaviors of its featured creatures, this volume goes a step further and delves into the very ecosystem of the dungeon! The story touched upon the ways that different beings (including humanoid species) interact with each and how they influence the environment of the dungeon. This all goes a long way into making the setting feel alive!
  • The mangaka somehow manages to make well-trodden medieval-esque fantasy tropes feel ~*FRESH*~ as hell. For example: the party being able to defeat
the ghosts by simply swinging around a sealed jar of holy water because the ghosts can simply pass through the jar is frigging inspired
  • The cheeky, subtly self-aware sense of humor is such a treat!
  • I was a bit worried that the cooking formula would get stale but I was pleasantly surprised by some of the chapters. I thought the series would closely stick to a pattern of the party hunting a creature and Senshi teaching them how to cook said creature but noooooo.

Very excited to read the next volume!
