Although I am not usually a fan of poetry, I found myself very enamored by Fairytales. The emotions portrayed were very real and I found myself relating to a majority of the poems. The author has done a very good job of capturing the inner turmoil one experiences when dealing with loss of friends and loved ones whilst facing their own demons as well. I would highly recommend this to others.

I really enjoyed this collection of poems written in free verse by talented author ME Aster. The language and word choices are really lovely and evocative and I like how empowering the writing feels to read. I am already a huge fan of Aster’s fiction, and this collection, showing how versatile they are as a writer, just absolutely blew me away! Some of my favorite poems were: ebbing light, the darkness, warmth, uprooted, delicate wings, and don’t forget. Highly recommended for all poetry lovers!

I’m not the biggest fan of poetry and don’t really know how to review it, but this collection was great. It was relatable, heartbreaking, and gave an insight into the author’s life that made you feel like you knew them personally and made me want to comfort past them.

I especially loved the autumn of hurt, 2am, nightmares, symphony no. 99 and time. I also loved the how the author had written, “Now we are two halves of a whole.” I have yet to read Three Halves of a Whole, but I just love when authors do that.

I will say if you are not in the mood for some sad poetry you might do what I did and put this down until you are, but even after over two weeks the 80% that I had read still stayed with me.

This is definitely one poetry collection I won’t forget.

Aster is unafraid of facing the darker, harsher emotions we all experience, the words leaving a feeling of an extended hand, almost to let us know we are not alone. The hauntingly beautiful poetry is inspiring me to return to writing my own.

Some of my favorites:
~fanfare/finale
~perfection
~a girl and a boy
~everything
~pretend
~secrets
~forevermore

⚜ poetry review ⚜

twisted lies and poisoned trees
you are more than that to me
a volatile orchard perhaps

This is a collection of introspective, emotive poetry and prose that is definitely worth checking out! I can't wait to read more of Aster's writing.
