A book that I read far too young and has haunted me since

I didn't really want to read this book. Actually I didn't know what it was. Well, now I know, and I am so grateful to one of my friends, who gave me this book with the following recommendation: "I got it accidentally, but I liked it(despite the covering...). You know, it's tiring to be a good girl all the time. This book will show you, that it is more tiring to be a bad girl. This book is about things, we - fortunately - are left out from." She's kind of right.

Though this book is more than you might think. It's true that it's hard to agree with the main character in many cases. I admit I didn't really liked her till the end. But there was something in her. Actually a lot. loved the story, the situation that turned out finally and everything. It's not needed to agree with anything. It's an opportunity to see the world differently and get to know someone who is really not perfect.

not what i expected and fell a little flat. I was anticipating a more mysterious book and I really enjoyed the scenes in the room/with Ethan (who is never explained??) but the majority detailing her friendship with Sal etc and her relationship with Nat... GOD HER BLOODY OBSESSION with her boyfriend. UGH

Really not for me and dragged out way too much. By the end I just did not care about it at all.

THE TWEET
The story of Grace, a teen girl who wakes up in a strange white room, unfolds in ENTANGLED as she tries to figure out how she got there.

WHAT WORKED
I loved Grace's personality in ENTANGLED. She was snarky and had a fantastic sense of humor, despite the circumstances she was in. She narrates her story with a strong and independent voice that really resonated with me. As Grace told her story, I could imagine myself in her place, experiencing the same feelings she did.

WHAT DIDN'T WORK
I didn't love the beginning of the story. To be honest, it was too vague for me. I was very tempted to put the book down, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. I guess I'm just one of those people who always has to know the details of everything and the fact that I didn't know what was going on and where Grace was bothered me.

OVERALL
ENTANGLED is not a happy story. While there is hope at the ending of the book, the rest is depressing and sad, but so very REAL. Author Cat Clarke has perfectly captured the voice of a teenage girl and put it into ENTANGLED.

I know a lot of people have negative opinions about this book but I really liked it. I found I couldn't put it down because I just wanted to find out what happened. However, it needed very suddenly and I felt like there was no proper conclusion to the book.

Grace tries to kill herself and wakes up in a strange room with only pens and paper to keep her entertained. All she can remember is meeting Ethan in the park and now waking up as his prisoner. Where is she? Why is she there? What does Ethan want from her? She starts to think about what led to her suicide and we hear a story of self-harm, pain and sadness in her life.

Grace is not the nicest of people at times-the spiteful way she talks to her mother and the way she bosses Sal around and puts her down isn't pleasant. Trying to force Sal to tell her who she slept with is not helping their friendship. Grace, you are too pushy and an unpleasant drunk, and the way you pick on Devon is just spiteful. Sal is not exactly nice herself, the way she treats Grace when she finds out about the self harm. And to blame Grace for Sal's own pregnancy was disgusting. I don't recall Grace forcing you to get drunk with some guy you didn't know and ending up used and pregnant. In some ways both girls deserved each other. However, despite her faults I did kind of like Grace but I didn't like Sal from the start.

Now I found the plot to be so predictable but that doesn't mean I didn't enjoy the story. As soon as the all white room was mentioned, I guessed that Grace was in some kind of limbo between life and death, with Ethan as a guide to help her to find her way. When she talks about meeting Nat, it was obvious who the other girl Nat mentioned was going to be. And poor Grace must be the only one who didn't realise that Nat and Sal were having a fling behind her back. Sal is such a revolting bitch at the end of the book, standing there justifying her own behaviour in stealing Nat by saying 'I saw him first' while her friend lies there fighting for her life because of you two. You complete bitch! Nat is just a tosser. You knew that Mr Perfect was never going to be the nice guy he claimed to be. Devon was a much nicer person and you hope that Grace does recover and find a happy ending with Devon.

Overall it was a good book with interesting characters and a story that kept me interested to the end, even though I knew how most of it was going to go. Well worth a read.

Grace's world has been reduced to an all-white room and bathroom. There is one window up high and one door which is always locked. Her captor is a mysterious (and attractive) guy named Ethan. Besides three meals a day, the only thing Ethan allows Grace to have is blank paper and pens. So Grace has been writing about the events that happened before Ethan kidnapped her. But the more Grace writes, the more she remembers. And the more she remembers, the weirder things become.

Entangled was very well written. I felt claustrophobic and trapped in the room with Grace's memories. This book gave me some seriously weird dreams. Probably thanks to Grace feeling so crazy and confused. Ethan was such an intriguing character, and I totally could not get enough of him. Grace's friends Nat and Sal seemed too hot and cold for me. I wanted to yell at Grace some moments, and wish I could be as lucky as her in other moments. And I liked being able to guess along the way as to what was really happening. Even though readers may think they guess correctly, the final chapter is a whirlwind climax no one could turn away from. I cannot wait for Cat Clarke's next book!

**Warning: this text may contain spoilers** Reread 27/5: The ending is still confusing, the story is still very real. Not much to add really.

This was an interesting book I thought. I liked how Grace is portrayed so realistically, she makes mistakes, has attitude problems, she's not perfect. I could also understand her frustration with Sal not telling her the truth about her pregnancy.

And Nat was a really annoying guy, so sweet and nice and understanding but he's in love with her best friend. He shouldn't have let the relationship go on as long as it did because that meant Grace got more and more in love with him and upon finding out the truth led to her deciding to kill herself rather than maybe just getting hammered and cutting.

Ethan was a bit of a strange character, I kind of felt that as well as being her conscience he was a mix of all the guys she'd known, her dad, Nat and Devon. I didn't really understand his 'death' though.

The ending was a bit strange as well, I felt there should have been an epilogue, kinda 3 months later or whatever. I got that she was in a coma/ coming out of one but considering the start had her planning to slit her wrists (I assume as she had a knife) I don't understand how she ended up in a coma? Unless the figure she saw by the swings was Nat or even Devon and she decided to go over and shout at him but being slightly drunk she may have fallen out of the clubhouse thing and hit her head? Combined with maybe already slitting her wrists (she did mention at the end her arms throbbing) I guess that blood loss etc would cause a coma. But that's only a theory.

bleh, bleh, bleh. I am pretty sure when this came out around 2011 I was reading a lot of teen books and someone recommended it highly and I special ordered it because it was a UK pub. I never read it at the time, but grabbed it recently. So not quality.
