Matty is an inconsiderate piece of work and Xed deserved better. I’m still rating this high because the author really had me hooked, in my feelings over how Xed was treated throughout the book. Matty did not deserve him. Period.

“No one wants me, Matty. It’s fine. I’ve gotten used to it.” “I want you.”

“You don’t mean it, and he can tell. You gotta mean it, Daddy.”

Crossing Arizona, book two the The State of Us series, is a second-chance romance that was brutal on my heart. Ughh I just wanted to two MMCs to get it together and be happy. Marty pissed me off the majority of the book, and I felt for Xed. Honestly, I just wanted to hold and hug Xed while staring menacingly at Matty, but Matty needed a hug too.

This book was high angst and a lot of mutual pining, but we get to catch up with all the gang from book one while to the MMCs work through their issues. This book is told in past and present timelines from both MMCs POVs. When the happy moments began I was elated and wanted more. Can’t wait to see who’s next in this series. 🖤

I found this book difficult to follow. The time jumps are a bit haphazard. I did enjoy getting some of the scenes from Crossing Delaware from another point of view. I eventually got sick of how clueless Matty was. It was really too much. But, in the end, I felt like Xed expected way too much. He expected Matty to magically know what he needed to do to win him back. The fact that Maddy eventually did it worked but it was kind of excessive. Throughout the book, they just keep hurting each other over and over through their own cluelessness and pain. I understand they are both have their own traumas, but it just got repetitive and painful to read. I still enjoyed the book on a certain level and the story was good but I felt like it could've been executed better. I didn't love the characters because they both pissed me off so much. I didn't really love the side characters either. This whole group of friends felt emotionally stunted and petty.

I WAS FOAMING AT THE MOUTH REALIZING THIS WAS XED AND MATTY’s STORY AHHHH

BITCH first off I fucking love them, more than Taylor and Huck. Their friendship? How deep it was at the end of the day that they were each other’s other halves. Matthew is the definition of ‘looks like could kill you.. is a cinnamon roll’ bc yes he’s an NFL player, broad, tall but underneath everything he such a loving person. How he stepped up being a father even when Valarie (bitch)
