This book is really just a novelty if you're a fan of Stephen King's Rose Red tv show/movie. I liked learning a bit of the history but its clear the book was written from a male POV. Ill probably never read it again.

I was obsessed with the first half and trudged thru the second half. So much build up with an unsatisfying end, maybe mirroring Ellen's life as well. I was captivated with Ellen and her diary and fascinated about the period and construction. Things seemed to fall apart after the children were born both in the diary and in the writing.
I first read this years ago when the Rose Red miniseries was playing on ABC and really enjoyed it. I had forgotten a lot of the details but remembered the basic plot. I would recommend this to any Stephen King fan, as he was the screenwriter for the miniseries this book is based on.

I really, really enjoyed the start of this. However as pages went by, I found the pacing to be slightly off. Then I noticed that I was bored while reading each page, even as the craziest events were being described. Not sure I would recommend this.

It took a surprisingly long time to read this book. I enjoyed the story but the ending was a little ruined for me. It helps to have an open mind as well. I was skeptical of most things and explained them off easily enough. It really depends on how your mindset is going into the book. It was a nice read for Halloween and gave me a couple of creepy dreams.
