This was a book that I've grown up with, or the movies at least. I've watched the original movie time and time again and all of the remakes and series as well. My mom has always been a HUGE fan of this universe and I can't say I blame her. I think she read "The Hobbit" to me long ago but I can't remember for sure. Anways, a read of it was long overdue and I was glad to finally read it myself.
As a rule I really don't re-read very often, and if I do usually it's because I've forgotton most of the book. I just hate knowing exactly what happens even if it's a book I love, and for that reason it was kind of hard for me to get into "The Hobbit." But there was a ton of diffrences the book had from the movies and they were fun to pick out and helped me get into it. It's also just a really well written book, so that helps.
I think what really made this book stand out to me are a couple of things. First, the pacing is just so good, like it's so fast paced and I was never board of anything becuase of it. Second, I think that the epic feeling of this book, the "high fantasy" persona of it really makes it fun. It's a classic for a reason.
If for some reason you haven't read this, it is worth it.

I have been a fan of the LOTR films for most of my life. I read the trilogy and did enjoy them, but found the writing to be a little difficult with all of the geographical language. The Hobbit is far easier to read, and the writing flows like a tale being told around a fire. Non-stop excitement and adventure once it gets rolling. I was very surprised that this would be my favourite Tolkien to date!
