A marvelous adventure with a Hobbit that is much loved and oh so relatable. Bilbo travels on an adventure with a rambunctious group of dwarves through many dangers, slowly earning their trust while becoming a more well-rounded being himself.

We had cozy moments where we sat by the fire. We felt the hunger, the cold, and the rain. We held our breath every time Bilbo slipped on the ring. We felt the happiness everytime we saw Gandalf. And mostly, we stood in lovey amazement at every new “race” that was introduced.

The Hobbit is an adventurous, reflective, and sometimes dark (but often hopeful) story about friendship and faith in the vast world of Tolkien.

The best graphic novel adaptation of a novel, especially a classic one, that I have yet seen. Artwork is done in a watercolor style and fits the adventurous story perfectly. If the movies had stuck more to the script of the book like this, they would have been wonderful portrayals of the book parts. The GN is not broken into chapters, but visually knowing when each scene changes into a new chapter feels easy. Some pages are very text heavy, but stretching out art or dialogue/action from text into more pages would not have made sense. I truly loved reliving the story in this fashion and am glad I added it to my own collection.

Revisiting this series after a while! Tolkien’s world building is incredible, with a mix of loveable characters and an adventure of turns and twists. Was gifted this book series by my uncle as a kid, and only recently found out the copies were my mum’s from the 80’s! Makes me cherish them even more now :0)

Hate the live action abomination, this, however, is one of my all time favorite books. A traveling adventure story told well with a lot of humor while still having dramatic moments and real stakes. I honestly wish tLotR read more like this book does but different strokes for different folks, as they say.

⚠️ CW: war, violence, death and fatphobia ⚠️ If you've never delved into the world Middle Earth and you love a good fantasy then there is no better classic to read than anything by Tolkien. Bilbo Baggins is the last person you'd expect to go on an adventure. He enjoys a quiet, unambitious life, rarely travelling further than his pantry. Until one day a wizard arrives on his doorstep. Accompanied by a band of dwarves, Gandalf, the wizard asks Bilbo to join him on a quest to raid the treasure of the great dragon Smaug. But to reach Smaug's lair under the Lonely Mountain, the adventurers will have to travel into the wild, braving trolls and goblins, ancient magic and fiendish evil. This book, and anything written by Tolkien, will always be a masterpiece in my opinion. From his immense world building, to his incredible character development, to his overall story telling. I love everything about his books. This one is such a great adventure, and even though it is a re-read for me I still couldn't help staying up late and binging it like I did the very first time I read it because it's just so enthralling. Also I love that it has some really powerful undertones and messages. Overall, if you're a fantasy lover then I highly recommend this book.
