Somehow my heart was literally shattering then I was having the best time. I honestly grieved for Juliette and her relationship with Adam. I mean god, can this girl catch a break? Juliette is so strong and it was beautiful to see her character development and just general emotional maturity. Her learning to accept her powers and herself is so important. I find her to be a beautifully flawed character with an iron will, same as Warner. One of my favorite chapters was Juliette and Warner just chatting like old friends. This is, I believe, the longest Juliette has ever spoken out loud ever, even with Adam. He makes her feel safe and isn't afraid of her, something she needed so bad. It's beautiful watching a character I have grown so fond of, finding her own voice. They just work, Warner and Juliette. And Kenji is one of my favorite characters ever. He, also is Juliette's first real real friend, who actually wants her to be herself. I love them and I am getting SO attached. I am so glad I gave this series another shot, it's helping with the folk of the air hangover. God, I pledge allegiance to Juliette. My lord and savior and her sexy short king bf Aaron MF Warner. Without Kenji, I would've been too sad. Also, Juliette is allowing herself to be a real person who has emotions instead of a shell in fear of scaring others. It's truly beautiful to see. I really love them so much.

“I want to be the friend you fall hopelessly in love with. The one you take into your arms and into your bed and into the private world you keep trapped in your head. I want to be that kind of friend. The one who will memorize the things you say as well as the shape of your lips when you say them. I want to know every curve, every freckle, every shiver of your body.
I want to know where to touch you, I want to know how to touch you. I want to know convince you to design a smile just for me. Yes, I do want to be your friend. I want to be your best friend in the entire world.”

“You are moody. It’s always ‘Shut up, Kenji.’ ‘Go to sleep, Kenji.’ ‘No one wants to see you naked, Kenji.’ When I know for a fact that there are thousands of people who would love to see me naked—”

“I want so many things,” he whispers. “I want your mind. Your strength. I want to be worth your time.” His fingers graze the hem of my top and he says “I want this up.” He tugs on the waist of my pants and says “I want these down.” He touches the tips of his fingers to the sides of my body and says, “I want to feel your skin on fire. I want to feel your heart racing next to mine and I want to know it’s racing because of me, because you want me. Because you never,” he says, he breathes, “never want me to stop. I want every second. Every inch of you. I want all of it.”

“Because if I lower my voice, I won’t be able to hear myself speak. And that,” he says, “is my favorite part.”

“He’s kissing me like the world is rolling right off a cliff, like he’s trying to hang on and he’s decided to hold on to me, like he’s starving for life and love and he’s never known it could ever feel this good to be close to someone. Like it’s the first time he’s ever felt anything but hunger and he doesn’t know how to pace himself, doesn’t know how to eat in small bites, doesn’t know how to do anything anything anything in moderation.”

“He's looking so deeply into my eyes that I'm surprised I haven't buckled under the intensity and I realize then, right in this moment I realize that everything about him is intense. Nothing about him is manageable or easy to compartmentalize. He's too much. Everything about him is too much. His emotions, his actions, his anger, his aggression. His love.”

“I can love him, but I can’t depend on him to be my backbone. I can’t be my own person if I constantly require someone else to hold me together.” I couldn’t put this book down, read it all in a whole day. The plot is so addicting, like you just HAVE to know how the story continues. Kenji is my favorite character. We see a different, more serious side of him and start to wonder about his life before he met Juliette. We see more of Warner and his love for Juliette genuinely makes you root for him to be end game. Adam, sweet, Adam. He’s perfect, but there’s something about Warner who only has a soft spot for Juliette that makes him so more appealing. Also….we will NOT talk about the “Adam incident”. I threw my book at the wall. Anywho, read this book, read this series. You have too.

First book of the year?!?!
The book wasn't too bad honestly it had a great story, the writing was amazing etc but I found it INCREFIBALLY hard to read ahaha
I think it was really just because Juliette had her prioritys wrong and she was so like complainy and pitying her self too much!
I mean they were going off to war and she ADMITTED that all she could think about was her bad love life like girl-
BUT OVERALL IT WASNT BAD AND IM EXCITED FOR THE NEXT!

Quick to read. Took a little bit too long to get to the plot but it’s still good.

I liked this soooo much more than the first book. It’s very easy to read but the excessive metaphors took some getting used to. The metaphors make it seem ALMOST like it’s trying (and failing) to be poetic to be honest. It’s definitely a page turner and the plot was good, to the point where i would read for less than an hour and already have read 100 pages (a lot for me). But it extremely lacks in world-building- why is there even an apocalypse? what is the apocalypse in this world? It mainly talks about what the government wants to do but not how it got to that point like girl tell me what’s going on please. Then I feel like I could get so much more into it because a lot other than the well fleshed out characters seemed to be left to imagination in terms of the universe they’re in. Overall I liked the character development, especially Warner’s and how Juliette finally realised she should stop feeling sorry for herself and do something about her situation to the point where she becomes even relatable (don’t worry girl, i would go for them both too).
