"Didn't you get the memo, Sam? We're all a little crazy. But there's strength in numbers."

I still can't believe I've never read a David Baldacci book before, or at least not since I started keeping track on Goodreads... I guess my TBR jar thought it was about time I finally changed that, and I'm not complaining. I do love a good action-focused crime thriller, and it can't get much more exhilarating than Long Road To Mercy. True, you will definitely have to suspend your disbelief as the plot is VERY over the top... But if you are able to sit back and just enjoy the ride, it is a very entertaining one indeed. There was something about Atlee's character that made it very easy to warm up to her, but then again I do love a kickass female MC. She has her flaws as well, which only works in her favor to be honest... And the hints at her past only made me want to know more. Long Road To Mercy is mainly focused on something completely different though. With the Grand Canyon as its backdrop, this plot is ready to take you on a wild ride with a high dose of danger, action and an over the top conspiracy plot... Was this story plausible at all? The heck not. But it sure made for some very entertaining hours of reading! I especially loved the Pine-Blum duo and how the two women go rogue and try to get to the bottom of things. The Gran Canyon hiking scenes were excellent as well... And there is something about the writing that is almost addictive. I've become an instant fan! On to the next Atlee Pine book it is.

A very slow start, but definitely got better. Hopefully the next book in the series trumps this one.

The author sets up an interesting mystery about the main character and her sister, and then immediately drops it for a much more boring story instead. It might be worth it to stick through, but the dialog is terrible and the main character isn't interesting enough to carry the focus. When the main character has a misanthropic attitude they need to be able to carry the plot along on their own, and Atlee Pine can't.
