Smart house meets the Shining, is the vibe I got out of this. It was completely different from any of their other books I’ve read. Delilah returns home after 6 years from her time in private school. She is still drawn to her crush Gavin after all these years. Gavin is the loney boy that keeps to himself because everyone thinks he's a freak. Delilah confesses her love to Gavin but the only problem is that his house doesn’t seem to like her. This is an interesting spin of a romance and I loved it.

This was a book with a very slow first half. I almost gave up on it, but I hate not finishing a book. I powered through it and really started liking it about the halfway mark. I wavered on a three star or a four star for this one. I finally decided on the three star because it really took a shove for me to get over that slow start. Halfway in a book is too far in for most people to want to wait.

In the end, the weird “love” House had for Gavin, was the key to defeat it!
For me, it was a roller coaster of emotions. In one chapter I was giggling because of how cute Delilah and Gavin were. Then in the other one, I was worried about what the House could do to them.
Delilah is an amazing character, a little bit weird, but her love and how she wanted to protect Gavin made her fantastic. However, my love belongs to Gavin, my sweet boy. He was so lonely, and his love for House was so pure
that it made me sad when he realized that House preferred to have him dead instead of allowing him to leave the house.

I wish we could get more about
Hilary's life after the house
or Delilah and Gavin's relationship, but I had a good time reading this book

I enjoyed this book, I do think it could’ve been shorter maybe? But also the ending felt kinda rushed to me. I still liked and enjoyed the book nonetheless

Really liked the premise of a magical living house! Didn’t love that it ended up being sinister. But liked this departure from romance into some romance mixed with fantasy!
