Part of our library's '100 books Every Kid Should Hear Before Kindergarten' list. We read all the books with our grandson this summer in preparation for school. This title is in my top 20 from the project.

One of my kids favorite books. My 7 year old reads it and he and his sister laugh and laugh. Cute book.

One of the funniest books I've ever read to my 5-year-old daughter. I highly recommend it if you have kids. If you don't have kids, pick it up the next time you're at the bookstore and zip through it - I guarantee a giggle.

I've read this to hundreds of kids and I never get tired of it. And neither do the kids--they adore shouting "no!" to the pigeon as he begs and pleads for a chance to drive the bus. I think they all recognize themselves in the pigeon, who is very like a young child as he throws a tantrum over his impossible dream. Children relish the chance to be the ones who get to say "no," for a change. Every class I read this to asks me to "read it again!"

This book was not what I expected (I had never read it as a child). I did not like that it was written as a one-sided conversation. On the other hand, I did like the stupid drawings of a one-eyed pigeon (so bad they're good?).
