Idk if I love this book or if I’m just too confused to understand and I actually  didn’t enjoy it as much as I think.. probably needs a reread

what a ride this book was. so incredibly written and dark and creepy and uncomfortable and a dark take on female friendships. the main character really doesn’t feel like she fits in and she feels abandoned and i think that’s why she initially hates the bunnies. seeing in them what she can’t seem to find herself. so she dehumanizes them with nicknames. in a way it felt like a dark found family take. i really enjoyed this book and how creepy and unnerving it was.

I loved this book! It was highly recommended to me and I wasn't quite sure about it, but I'm so glad I picked it up! It started off a bit slow and confusing, but as you go through you start to understand why it starts that way and it slowly begins to unfold. Creepy, mysterious, beautiful! Lots of surprising bits along the way that you don't see coming that made me physically gasp. The main character is intriguing, relatable, and flawed; and her perspective is so interesting as we move throughout the book and you can see through her eyes as she's taken in by the cult and her thoughts start to change. As I was reading it I thought it about it every second I was away, wondering what was going to happen next! I would love to read other books by this author or similar because it's not a genre I typically pick up, but I was captivated.

I really liked the writing style, it was nothing I've read before. Really eerie and well done, with a decent sense of progression. The middle plot swap lost me for a minute, but I was right back in after about 50 pages. Only gripe is with the ending, it just felt a bit rushed and forced into a nice bow, when I think some kind of raw ending would have worked better, even with no intention of a sequel.

Alice in Wonderland meets Ninth House meets Heathers in the trippiest, most speculative book of its kind I’ve read in years. Really enjoyed the narrative choices made and the arc of the plot. It’s like Mona Awad reached into my brain and made my perfect novel.
