Well…..that was definitely……a book lol.

I can’t really explain this book or my feelings on it, but I feel like there is definitely some commentary in here on loneliness and isolation, and the lengths our brain will go to help us cope with these feelings, especially when we look at Samantha and Ava’s friendship. Honestly, I think I might have enjoyed forming my own/reading other people’s interpretations of this book more than I enjoyed reading the book itself.

I do wish we got to spend some more time inside the bunny cult though. Their hive mind dynamic, weird hybrid rituals, and how desensitized they were to all of it were the most interesting parts of the book, and it feels like we spent a criminally short amount of time with them in that space.

Loved it. A cuteishly gory fever dream. Started out reminding me of Mean Girls with a creepy twist. Later on became less cohisive in its direction, more dream-like but still connecting enough pieces to leave room for imagination. Very fun to read, though pretty weird.

Feels very white. But it’s good and layered just felt like it wasn’t exactly for me. Loved the discussion surrounding the feeling of loneliness though. Like if A24 was a book or if gaslighting was a book

If you're looking for a Lovecraft-inspired novel about the cosmic horror of toxic female friendships, I'm happy to tell you that your extremely specific search is at an end.

Just finished the book. Staring at my kindle in quiet shock. So many twists and turns while still being a deeply emotional story. Samantha felt so real and relatable that even as she fucked up, evidently made the worst choices ever, I couldn’t help but root for her and cry with her when things went south. In these types of books it's so easy to write a main character that is snotty and uninteresting because of their outside-ness but Mona made Samantha's head a warm and welcoming place to be in - she is every single one of us who ever had the misfortune of having to work with rich people, and she doesn't blame herself for feeling justified resentment at the bullshit around her.

Also Ava and Samantha had more chemistry than half of the famous gay relationships that are lauded about as the hottest thing in every single social media app. I'm gonna go cry in a fetal position now, BYE.

It made you laugh and confused all at the same time. Just that. The strangeness enveloping the novel was enticing at first, but it was all over the place from the cultish, thrilling, and fairytale-like embodiment, which didn't seem to bode well. There were those random scenes that only left questions. The novel felt incomplete and just somehow on a gauge to end a certain timeline. Though it was pretty imaginative, it really dived deep into creativity. There is definitely a strange attraction which makes you want to read it further, so kudos to the writer.
