This was a quick, enjoyable read. My biggest issue with the story was that it was about an invisible girl who has to go into hiding to get away from her father.
What??? She's invisible, yet somehow her father always manages to find her? Right...

I absolutely loved this book. As someone who loved X-Men growing up (and still loves it), this was the book I always wanted to write and couldn't.
Natalie Whipple created such a vivid world with a strong back story and perfect characters! I read most of this book in one day. I wanted to know what was going to happen and how. Fiona was a great main character, and I really felt her struggle with herself. She never could trust anyone, and here she is thrown into a world where people are so nice that it can't be real. That's so human. Brady, Seth, Beatrix, they were perfect supporting characters, and I like how it all turned out for them (I won't spoil it).
I might actually read this again. I can't wait to read Blindsided!

Transparent is one of the most unique books that I have read so far this year. It’s a mixture of The Godfather and X-Men with a contemporary romance feel to it.
The powers that people had were really interesting, especially with the main character’s invisibility that she can’t turn on or off. The author did a really great job at showing the main character’s feelings and struggles at not being able to see herself or have other people see her. Although the main tone of the book is lighter, those feelings and other things like her relationship with her huge crime doing father are written much deeper. I loved that the author was able to do that. It was never too light or intense, but had a good mix and flow to it.
The romance was so good. I loved the relationship that Fiona develops, and am most excited to continue that aspect of the story in the next book. It wasn’t instantaneous or even predictable. I had no idea that the story would take that turn and I am so glad that it did.
The best thing that I think this novel does best is blend the light romance and the heavy crime and escape aspects to where it’s a more gender neutral novel. Both guys and girls will really enjoy it.

Originally, I had received Transparent by Natalie Whipple in the mail as an ARC, and then a finished copy, which okay I probably should have read it in physical form BUT THEN a person I trust panned Transparent and I got kind of nervous. So, because audiobooks tend to go over better with me than physical books and because I have had to commute at least 2 hours a day, I knew that the best possible option would be for me to listen to Transparent AND it makes it so I can remove two books from my house without the OH NO I AM GETTING RID OF A BOOK WITHOUT READING IT WHAT IF IT IS NOT AT THE LIBRARY paralyzing fear. Yes, I have that anxiety problem. Also? Super powers. I came for the super powers.

I think I'm going to have to be one of those arseholes who gives oddly decimalised ratings and give this book 3.75 stars. I'm doing this solely because I've been dithering back and forth between 3.5 stars and 4 stars for hours now, and I still can't decide. So. 3.75 stars.
This book is basically X-Men meets The Godfather. There are people with superpowers, thanks to some kind of anti-radiation prescription drug several generations ago. Then the people with superpowers thanks to the drug started having babies with superpowers. The drug, incidentally, also makes your abilities more powerful, so crime families have sprung up all across the US, producing and smuggling and selling said drug. Fiona's father runs one of these families. And he uses his family members to further his criminal enterprises. She and her mother escape his clutches once and for all, and end up hiding out in rural Arizona where, for the first time, Fiona has to attend school and be a normal kid. Except that Fiona's invisible.
Okay, so. The powers in this book were pretty damned fabulous. Super strength. Voice throwing. Telekinesis. The ability to charm people into doing what you say. The ability to give off basically any scent you want. I loved that Fiona's ability wasn't something she could control. She's permanently invisible, and has no idea what she looks like, which is a pleasant change from all the characters who can turn their abilities on and off at will.
So I really liked the characters and their abilities, and the fact that society is kind of terrified of people with powers. That said, the plot was a little light on and predictable?? There were hints at a love triangle - and the guys involved were brothers, which is a world of no - but it was totally obvious from the get-go who Fiona was going to fall for. I guessed a lot of things before they happened, and there were several things that seemed very convenient. That said, I really enjoyed it and I was fully prepared to give it four stars until I thought about what it would look like for other people when Fiona's kissing someone. And then I squicked myself out...
That said, I liked it enough to buy the sequel on my Kindle, so I guess that means I'd still recommend it!

It's more like 3.5 stars, or 3.75 stars, so imagine a section of a star squeezed in there somewhere.
Loved the premise--very cool--and loved how Natalie carried the invisible theme throughout the book because, honestly, sometimes I forgot everyone could see right through her. :)
Great, fun story. The only thing I sometimes had a problem with was a few section sof unnecessary details (Taco Bel scene comes to mind) and a few spots of cheesy dialogue. (Dialogue will make or break a story for me, thus, the 3.5/2.75 stars.)
Other than that, loved the characters, unique setting and super powers. :)

Great, great book, enjoyed it, loved it, and a great start to a great series!!!
I had a love/hate relationship with the story on this one.
At times I felt like something was missing, but I did still enjoy it.

I originally picked this book up at Poundland a good few years back now, and can’t believe it’s taken me so long to get around to reading it. This book is full of superpowers, romance and general kick-ass. Our protagonist, Fiona, is invisible, on the run from her crime lord father and trying to blend into her new life and make friends. I thoroughly enjoyed this story, its uniqueness, and well written romance dealing with finding a boyfriend when you’re invisible. There’s a sequel I’m hoping to get to at some point.
