This short story prequel to Mila 2.0 is exactly that - a short story. Not a novella, like I was expecting. But it's still an awesome short story! Mila 2.0: The Origins: The Fire covers the fire that, in Mila 2.0, Mila can't remember anything before. The fire her father dies in.

It's fast paced and exciting, throwing you right into the action from the very get go. There's no slow building up to it; one minute Mila is dreaming, the next she wakes up choking on smoke. Debra Driza has written the story in such detail that even though I have never been in a fire, I could feel everything. The thick, choking smoke, the incessant, blistering heat. In such a small amount of time, Driza sets up extreme drama and tension, and has you sitting on the edge of your seat before you've even realised you've moved.

With this short story, Driza shows she is an extremely skilled writer, but also gives us some insight into what to expect in the full length novel. Mila is extremely resourceful, and although panicked and scared, keeps a clear enough head to think. And with the ending, I am so intrigued to see where Mila 2.0 will follow.

This free (currently) short story comes with the first seven chapters of Mila 2.0, but I didn't read them as I get too interested, and then can't continue! But as it is, I am super excited to get my hands on this book once it's released! It's going to be awesome!

This was an interesting look into Mila's "memories." I was a little disappointed there wasn't more, there is a preview for the first book which takes most of the pages listed. But it was cool for what it was.

I’m not sure if this impacts my thoughts because I read this after Mila 2.0 but Origins: The Fire has me super excited for the second book.

In Origins: The Fire, Mila wakes up to her house on fire. She gets outside, and then realizes that her parents are home so she rushes back in to try to wake them up and save their lives. That’s really all I’m going to say as this is a super short novella and any more will basically be the story line.

This prequel was fast-paces, action packed and I think that if I had of read this before Mila 2.0 I would have had to rush directly right into the main novel. It really does a great job of setting up one of the main plot points for the first book as Mila has lost her memory from the fire that killed her father. Now… if you read Mila 2.0 you learn some things about Mila and her life, so to read this afterwards really intrigues me. Where is this story going to go?

I think this was a great novella. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is due to the shortness. I wish it had a bit more… it really leaves you hanging where it ends off.

I 100% recommend this for anyone that wants to read Mila 2.0! Great addition to this series.

I'm not quite sure what I read....? Well I have the first book on my shelf, so I guess I'll start that soon.

The title says it all: this is a short (very short) story describing a fire. It might be interesting to those who have read the other MILA books as it is supposed to be a prequel, but I just didn't see the point. The story is not badly written, it is simply dull and didn't even make me want to read the other books in the series.
