Listening to this on audio- Brene Brown is a wonderful narrator and gives a great rundown on emotions and how our language around emotion allows us to better understand ourselves and others. Would recommend!

📚 2025 #35: “Atlas of the Heart” by Brené Brown
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.5/5: If you haven't read any Brené Brown before, I probably wouldn't start with this one. This is an important book if you want to have conversations about human experiences with intentional language.
Brown breaks down the words we use for emotions into different categories, contrasting and defining 87 of them. She goes over some interesting stories showing how deeply rooted our life experiences are with the languages we learned growing up. Having a larger vocabulary for emotion expands the ways in which we're able to feel and connect with other people.
I found her discussion of sympathy vs empathy vs compassion vs pity especially illuminating. It's so easy to react to someone else's pain in a way that we don't intend. A minor change of wording can make a world of difference.
