Reading The Blackbirds was like going on a 500 page journey with my closest girlfriends. Four women. Four experiences. Four backstories. One bond. A true sisterhood.

"I've traveled. I have BFF's. I've faced my biggest fears. I've lived alone. I'm independent. I made the first move on a man I wanted to be with. I've challenged myself. I've gotten fit."

Some folks prefer when EJD writes about Gideon. Some folks prefer when EJD writes sensual, sexy stories. Some folks say his style has changed and they are no longer a fan and that is very unfortunate because they are missing out on some of his best work. I've said it before and I will say it again: I am completely amazed by EJD's ability to write from a woman's point of view and completely nail every aspect of it. He nails the reactions, the thought process, and even the things we don't say aloud to another human being.

With The Blackbirds, he has shown again why he is my most favorite author and I can't wait for others to experience these four beautiful women.

"Just remember, you don't have to have a pretty past to have a beautiful future."

I could write so much more about this book and maybe I will once we get closer to the release date. In the meantime, head over to Amazon or whoever your favorite retailer is and pre-order your copy now. You won't be disappointed!!!

I have to say that Eric Jerome Dickey is my favorite author. He's probably been my favorite since before I was old enough to really read and understand the life situations that are in his books. It was pretty much a forgone conclusion that i'm going to read it.

This book is what I expected it to be and that was greatness! I always tend to compare books to television shows and this was pretty much Girlfriends. Still mad that show didn't get a finale because of the writers strike, but I digress. Dickey always manages to capture whatever he choose to write about. I love his Gideon series as much as I love his other books. His writing is so poetic, but real and conversational at the same time.

I don't know which girl I loved the most. If I had to choose, I think it would be Destiny. She had the most growth. Who hasn't been stood up by the first and given a dude money that they would never get back. I think I could see a little bit of myself or one of my friends in each one of the characters too. The drama was so good. They talked to each other just like I would talk to my girlfriends. The end had me a little anxious, but i'm glad it ended the way it did. I would love a sequel to this book down the line. Go read it!

Loved it!

Blackbirds started off kind of slow but I had to remember it's EJD and he has to give the background. This couldn't come at better time with where I am in my own life. By the end of the book I wanted more! I wanted more and more! #IloveEJD

DNF at page 49. If there’s a thing such as a book having too much dialogue, this is it. Also, if you’re gonna write a 500+ page book, I feel like you have to have at least a little bit of pull right away to make the reader want to keep reading and I didn’t feel that. Maybe it also didn’t help that I read the 1 and 2 star reviews- a lot of them stated there wasn’t really a plot. This was my first EJD book, will I try another? Idk

DID NOT FINISH

Terrible writing the way it was set up was so random and felt like a story being told from a teen girl.

This book is really about friendship. The men in these four women's lives take a lot of the story, but the core is their friendship with each other.

This is a very engaging story with a lot of humor. Due to cultural and generational gaps, there were references and stories I didn't understand. That is my loss, but didn't interfere with the overall enjoyment of the book. Also, I was unaware until the end that many of these characters appear in other books. This is a stand alone story, and can be enjoyed as such.

Extremely well-written, entertaining book.

Did not finish. Made it to chapter 9 and could not keep my attention.

This book was not for me. It was 200 pages too long. It felt draining to read. I get what he was trying to do but the conversations between the women were too unrealistic to me. As girlfriends we have deep conversations but I dont know any woman in real life that talks like that IMO. The scenarios were interesting to say the least. The only reason why I kept reading because I wanted happiness for Destiny and I feel like her situation is very relevant to now. Other than that, I wouldnt recommend it.
