Auch dieses Buch hat mir gut gefallen.
Every book in this series just keeps getting better, super exited to read the next one!
She was Aelin Ashryver Galathynius—and she would not be afraid.
Sam Cortland, you will always be on my mind.
I enjoyed this book way more than the first three. It was such an emotional rollercoaster, and I have a feeling this is just the beginning.
I would've finished it sooner, but a certain 300-year-old grumpy fae forced me to pause every time he opened his cruel mouth.
You know that audio on tiktok
Be nice..
I'm finding it
It take you that long to find it?
It does, it does
That's me trying to say something good about Rowan in the first half. I've been waiting for someone to give Celaena a reality check since book one, but it didn't land the way I'd hoped. He was just so mean, and I get he didn't know her story, but still. She's been through enough, give my girl a BREAK.
“You’re worthless. You would probably have been more useful to the world if you’d actually died ten years ago.”
I needed a moment to collect myself after that. I understand she needed someone like him, but did he really have to be so cruel?
It would have been nice to have one person who knew the absolute truth about her—and didn’t hate her for it.
Don't get me wrong, I liked him in part two, and I know I'll come to love him as much as you do, but it took Aelin almost dying and seeing her scars for this man to stop being an asshole. I think he's somewhat overrated, but maybe I'll change my mind later.
➳ That ending broke my heart. Dorian deserves so much better. Aside from Aelin, he was the character I loved most in this book.
“You cannot pick and choose what parts of her to love.”
“Just as you cannot pick which parts of me you accept.”
➳ I wish it hadn't taken Chaol so long to choose the right side, but I don't hate him like everyone else seems to.
➳ I loved the chapters with Manon and Abraxos.
➳ I love Aedion, and I can't wait to see him reunited with Aelin.
➳ I want to know more about Rowan's friends.

I am somewhere between four and five stars with this book. The characters and story are interesting, and there was never a point where I considered not finishing it. It’s definitely well-written. But for all the well-written pages, there isn’t enough world building or the kind of world building I would like to have. For that reason I am somewhere between four and five stars. Either way, it’s definitely a worthwhile series.
Jesus Christ SJM... This has only marked the halfway point of the series in book count, and I'm already cowering, practically shaking, while reading. And of course, in typical SJM fashion, the last 100 (150 pages this time ahcktually) were a damn whirlwind, and making it physically painful to put the book down.
Heir of Fire is a quintessential middle book, bringing with it emotional baggage from previous books, introducing new and exciting characters that move the story and our characters forward, and most importantly, it put our beloved characters in impossible situations that forced them to make incredibly difficult decisions, and grow because of them. By the end, I kept thinking back to the ultimate episodes of Game of Thrones' middle seasons, that brought drama and character development, while blasting us forward into new and exciting territories ahead. This time, compared to Crown of Midnight, it feels like the direction is more precise. We know where our characters need to go, what they need to do, and we are just along for the ride. Anything could, and probably will, happen.
Although HoF didn't make me full on weep, it made me tear up so often with poignant words and character moments that I can't in good conscience give it anything lower than 5 stars. I know I can be generous with my ratings, but dammit, my (fire)heart can't bear giving it 4.
As with all books, of course, it's not perfect. There were plenty of times when I felt overwhelmed by the onslaught of new characters and places, many of which it took a very long time to understand the point and narrative function of. Some that I'm still not quite sure where we're going with (looking at you Manon). But having come this far, there is not a bone in my body that doubts the importance of her, and many of the other characters moving forward.
Thank the gods that I already have the rest of the books at hand, because I need to start Queen of Shadow tonight. And no, I will never stop getting annoyed at breaths being loosed. Please SJM, pull out the thesaurus and find some synonyms...
