“But there’s no guarantee that the solution will be found immediately. The same holds true in our lives. We encounter several problems to which the solutions are not immediately apparent in life. There is value to be had in worrying about those problems when you get to them. But never feel rushed. Often, in order to find the answer, you need time to grow first. That’s why we apply ourselves, and learn as we go.”

Higashino makes it difficult for me to hate the murderers. The grey area of any murderer’s motive is why I pick up his books but I still hate him a little bit for it!

Higashino’s books are usually less of a “whodunnit” than a “howdunnit” and/or “whydunnit.” This book broke away from that mold for about the first half and then circled around to examining motive and means more extensively. I have to say I prefer the style of other books, which are almost like character studies and dig really deeply into the why and how. That said, I still really enjoy Higashino’s writing style and I liked the people and the mystery in this book. My quest to read all the Detective Galileo books will continue~

Solid 4.5/5 for me. I m literally crying because of the the truth of the characters being told. And as always. mindblowing ending.

[DNF] i am a fan of higashino and his works, but this was a downer— in other words, this was not one of his best works.
