Fatal promise is the ninth book in the character driven Kim Stone series by Angela Marsons .
The team is back after losing a member in the last book and the absence is felt by every member of the team who cope with the tragedy in their own way .Along with grieving the loss, Kim and her team are also trying to solve the murder of a doctor and his son who were connected with the case in the previous book. When another dead body is found who is also connected to the doctor Kim knows there is a serial killer at large who will stop at nothing .

This book is an addictive fast paced novel and a great addition to the series. I would recommend reading the series in order and cannot wait to read the next one in the series

I would like to thank Bookouture & NetGalley for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review.

Another great instalment to the DI Kim Stone series focusing on the aftermath of the huge plot twist from the previous book.

This is the 9th book in the DI Kim Stone series and the second I've read. Thanks to my friend Debbie for telling me about Netgalley which is where I got his book. For me, one test of a good author is the ability to write books in a series that not only keep me engaged, but are written in such a way that you don't have to read the books in order. In this case, I have read the first book, and now the 9th book and I can't wait to go back and read the ones in between. DI Kim Stone is a strong female lead character who is very good at her job and not particularly likeable - because she is so focussed on doing her job well. A doctor is found dead in a field, and he is someone known to Kim and her team. When his son is involved in a car accident days later, the team have to find out whether the two incidents are related. Great building of suspense and great story telling.

Kim continues to be the worst thing about these books. In this she has ramped up her disrespect and disregard for others, and worse, what's left of her team.

The main plot line is labourious and mostly uninteresting as it's taking a backseat to the forced drama around the "team". It is also basically unguessable, we're given next to nothing to suggest the actual killer.

The subplot was predictable, and seemed like just a vehicle to get Stacey on her own, to justify promoting her in the next book, I predict. Which she probably isn't ready for, since it took her absolutely flipping ages to work out what was happening

I'm really annoyed that the end of the book basically said, "Kim can't change, won't change." Great. More of the same coming. Or, a major unrealistic ridiculous character unheavel.

I'm 50/50 to whether I'll bother with the next book, however the synopsis suggest Kim is going to have a rotten time... Which I'm quite keen on. In a morbid sort of way.

Book nine of the Kim Stone series begins six weeks after the shattering finale of book eight as her team struggle to cope with their loss and Stone still recovering physically from her injuries. So when a man is found murdered with connections to the previous situation, they are once again on high alert.
Whilst this is a great murder-mystery, it's equally a fascinating look at how people behave after a massive loss and their reactions to each other. Add in a great sub-story about a missing teenage then it's another fast paced addition to a great series.
